When the Bojnik Public Utility Company (PUC) “Jedinstvo” approved the Decision on Market Rules and the Decision on Provision and Use of Market Stands at the end of February 2013, they became the first PUC in this Jablanica town to introduce good governance principles into its work.

“When I grow up, I’ll be a doctor. I will help people get better. I will cure old people,” proudly says eleven-year old Nejžla. “But in order to become a doctor, I must study a lot,” she adds. Nine-year old Aki, sitting next to her in school, says he will be a football player. Although he is the best in class in mathematics for which you “need a good brain” as he says, his heart is at the Red Star football stadium. Vasip has just started attending school. He is seven and he likes to study. His favourite song is ”Every morning I wash my chest, for real people that’s the best…” In his free time, he plays the darbuka drum (goblet drum).

In the summer of 2012, Mursel Bakić, formerly employed in the ‘Raška’ textile factory in Tutin, offered his kidney for sale to pay for electricity, feed his family and afford schooling of his children.

When Šefadil Spahić became the President of Community Office IV in 2009, he found only an old typewriter on the premises. He would try to type something. The key would jam. And so it would take him two hours at a time to write a short memo. “Then the ribbon runs out, then I turn it upside down, and red letters come out. I pull out the jammed keys, clutching the collar of my shirt anxiously… and at the end of the day –I find my collar is red.”
