More Efficient Operation of Bujanovac Municipality Supported by EU

30 January 2014, Bujanovac

Head of European Union Delegation in the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador Michael Davenport handed over QMS certificate ISO 9001 and EMS certificate ISO 14001 to the Mayor of Bujanovac Nagip Arifi, thereby making Bujanovac one of few Serbian municipalities in possession of these standards, owing to the support of the EU and the Government of Switzerland through the European Partnership with Municipalities Programme EU PROGRES.

The adopted standards imply quicker, more efficient and high-quality municipal services for the citizens of Bujanovac. Alongside this, employee responsibilities and competences were defined more clearly; costs of labour should decrease in certain segments and the work of the municipal administration should become more transparent.

“Municipality of Bujanovac has proven its commitment throughout this complex process, by reviewing its acts and regulations and work flexibility, and shaping the local administration to fit the strict requirements of these two standards. Thereby, it now has increased chances of winning public sector tenders. It also improved its operational efficiency and reduced errors through better process control and flow, and well defined and documented procedures,” European Union Ambassador Michael Davenport said earlier today.

“When we completed the alignment process we received confirmation from the independent commission that we have indeed aligned our work and procedures with contemporary standards. We can improve Bujanovac only if we constantly strive to improve services we offer to all our citizens,” Mayor of Bujanovac Nagip Arifi said.

Ambassador Davenport also took part in the public debate 'Serbia on the path to the European Union' on Serbia's process of European integration, set up by the Coordination body of the Government of the Republic of Serbia for the Municipalities of Preševo, Bujanovac and Medveđa.
