Ecological Heating in Prijepolje

16 August 2012, Prijepolje

The technical acceptance of biomass boilers in municipal building, kindergarten and School of Economics and Technics, marked the end ofthe project whose implementation was supported by the European Union and the Government of Switzerland in the amount of 100,000 Euros and by the Municipality of Prijepolje with 18,000 Euros. Prijepolje Museum, which is attached to the heating system in the municipal building, has also benefitted from the project.

All three boiler rooms used coal before intervention, had shabby boilers that caused great energy loss, and had high maintenance costs. Unlike coal, pellet is ecologically clean fuel made from pressed wood, with 95% utilisation.

Pellet heating contributes to decreasing the greenhouse gas emission and improves management of wood waste. In turn, the pollution is reduced and the care about environment increased by using available natural resources. The experts estimate that municipal budget will save 20% offunds for heating, which, along with the ecological aspect, contributes to economical management.
